Still, it is important to remember that the way your wig looks right after delivery does not always reflect its full potential. The hair has been sitting inside the packaging, the lace has not been cut yet, and the part has not been customized to you.

A few simple steps can help the wig open up, regain movement, and look more natural and personal.

Here are the most important steps, in order.

1. Cut the Lace Carefully

DARIA lace wigs arrive with the lace intact, allowing you to customize it precisely to your forehead and face shape.

Cutting the lace is a simple step that can be done at home. You can find many videos showing how to cut lace properly, or you can choose to visit a wig stylist or hairstylist who has experience working with lace wigs.

How to cut the lace

Put the wig on and pull the hair back. Make a small cut in the center of the lace, then continue gradually toward the left side. After that, return to the center and complete the right side.

Cut in small sections, following a slightly wavy line, about 2–3 mm in front of the hairline. A line that is not perfectly straight blends more naturally against the forehead.

It is always better to leave a little extra lace and adjust later than to cut too close to the hairline.

2. The First Wash Helps Restore the Hair’s Natural Movement

After being stored in packaging, the hair may look slightly flat or may fall in an unnatural direction because of the way the wig was positioned during shipping.

A gentle wash helps release the hair from the shape it took in the package, restores softness and movement, and allows you to see its natural fall more clearly.

3. Set the Part Where It Suits You Best

Your wig may arrive with a middle part or without a clearly defined part, but you can always change the part to suit you.

After washing, while the hair is still slightly damp, create the part where you want it using a rat-tail comb. Then dry the area with a blow dryer while combing the hair in the direction you want it to sit.

You do not need to repeat this step after every wash, only when you want to change or reset the part.

Prefer more volume?

Comb the hair at the top backward and dry it while gently lifting the roots. Once the hair cools down, you can create a softer part or move it easily from side to side.

4. Add Movement to the Ends

Whether you ordered a wig with a natural wave or a straighter texture, a little movement in the hair usually creates a more natural look. Use the following tip to give your wig a softer, more effortless finish.

When the hair is slightly damp, divide it into sections and gently scrunch the ends upward with your hands. This helps enhance the hair’s natural movement.

If you prefer a smooth blowout look, use a round brush to create a soft bend at the ends, either outward or in alternating directions. This creates movement and volume without making the hair look curled or overly styled.

It is also recommended to add a little movement around the face using a blow dryer, curling iron, or hair rollers.

Of course, if you prefer a more styled or curled look, you can always use heat styling tools. Just remember to use moderate heat and apply a heat protectant.

5. Place the Wig at the Right Height

The placement of the wig on your forehead has a major effect on how natural it looks and how balanced your facial features appear.

In most cases, the wig’s hairline should begin where your natural hairline starts.

You can also use the principle of dividing the face into three balanced sections:

Measure the distance from the base of your nose to your chin, then measure the distance from the base of your nose to your brow line. Now measure upward from the brow line using a similar distance. The point you reach can serve as a helpful starting point for placing the wig’s hairline.

6. A Light Haircut Can Work Magic

A haircut, such as soft layers or even a light fringe, is another detail that can make the wig look less “wiggy.” Even if you prefer to keep the overall shape quite straight, a subtle cut can make a significant difference.

Even a very gentle face-framing trim, especially around the front pieces, can soften the hairline and create a more natural, authentic look.

7. Let the Hair Cool Before Brushing It

After setting the part, adding movement to the ends, or styling the hair with rollers or heat tools, it is best to place the wig on a stand and allow it to cool and dry in the desired shape.
